Wall Lake - Uintas

Here's a hike to one of the lesser-visited, but more easily accessible, lakes in the Uinta Mountains. From the Crystal Lake trailhead parking lot, take the north trail. Within a few hundred yards, you should see a small sign pointing to Cliff Lake. Follow the sign, but the first body of water you will see is the pond called Upper Lily Lake. (Hint: It will be covered in lily pads.) Continue northeast as the trail gains about 300 feet in elevation. You will pass Cliff Lake and then Petite Lake. As the trail starts down again, on your right you will find an overlook for Wall Lake. The trails become difficult to follow from here, but you have the option of descending to the shoreline (as reflected in the accompanying map) or following the ridge.

Getting there: From Kamas, take U-150 east for 32 miles to the Crystal Lake trailhead. When you pull off the main road, follow the trail road for another mile to the parking lot.
