Burch Hollow - Terraces loop

Rosie the Dog enjoys the view from Lookout Rock.

This hike links two popular Mill Creek Canyon trails to make a loop with several good canyon views. Start at the Burch Hollow trailhead and follow the broad switchbacks up to the Pipeline Trail. Head up and around the hollow to a four-way junction at 1.5 miles. The two footpaths to the right head down to Lookout Rock, a quarter-mile side trip. Head back and follow the Pipeline Trail to the Mill Creek Canyon Road at Elbow Fork. Cross the road to a footbridge that leads to the signed Terraces trail. It shoots steeply up to a ridge overlooking Bowman Fork to the south and then descends to the Terraces picnic area. A paved road links the picnic area to the main Mill Creek road. The Burch Hollow trailhead is a few hundred feet to your left. Fees $3 per car, payable at exit. Annual pass is $40. Restrooms Yes, on the south side of the road near the boardwalk and on the north side of the road at Elbow Fork. Dog allowed Yes; must be leashed on even calendar days.

Getting there: The Burch Hollow trailhead is 4 miles up Mill Creek Canyon on the north side of the street right after Porter Fork Road.
