Near-majority supports hiking the gas tax

Utah legislators meeting at the Capitol are trying to come up with ways to make drivers shoulder more of the cost of state highways and roads. One obvious option is raising the gas tax, which lawmakers fear is politically unpopular. But 50 percent of voters would support this option, according to a new Salt Lake Tribune-Hinckley Institute of Politics poll.

Q: Would you support or oppose a gas-tax increase to improve Utah highways and roads?
