After a 2015 peak, overall crime is down in Salt Lake City over the last two years. Serious or “Part I” crimes -- aggravated assault, arson, burglary, rape, homicide, larceny/theft, motor vehicle theft, and robbery -- have declined more than 5 percent per year for two years/ Lesser “Part II” offenses declined in 2016 but ticked up again in 2017, in part due to stepped-up enforcement. They include disorderly conduct, drug abuse, DUI, fraud, gambling, lesser assaults, prostitution, stolen property, vandalism, and weapons offenses.
