Weary of the pain, Utah veteran opts to surrender his injured leg
Nine years after he was wounded in Iraq, Utah Army veteran Bryant Jacobs opted to have his injured leg removed above the knee — possibly the longest "delayed amputation" of the nation's most recent wars. Reporter Matthew D. LaPlante and photographer Scott Sommerdorf have followed Jacobs and his family for the past year. LaPlante has occasionally written about Jacobs since 2005.
